Meet Marabelle Gin, the star of the sea in a bottle!
From the design of the bottle to the ingredients and the name of the gin as you can tell everything has been thoroughly thought through in the making of this beautiful gin. The name of Marabelle Gin was created to remind guests of the experience of standing under the stars, as if on a ship out at sea – idyllic and memorable. Another place that took part in the development of the Marabelle gin is the Scottish island of Iona as it has such breath-taking seascapes, coastline, and native flora where the night skies full of stars are something to see which are all elements that inspired this Gin’s one of a kind recipe.
Who is Salcombe Distilling Co?
The award-winning distiller Salcombe Distilling Co. distils and trailblazer of exceptional gin. Salcombe Distilling Co. was founded by Angus and Howard, in the stunning coastal town of Salcombe, the soul of Salcombe Gin is infused with the town’s rich heritage. In the Nineteenth-century there were ‘Salcombe Fruiters’ who took and delivered treasure troves of spices and fresh fruits from all around the world via schooners that were fast sailing ships. This is where the inspiration for Salcombe Distilling Co. came from the ‘Salcombe Fruit Schooners’ as well as Salcombe town’s lively fruit-trading history.
At the waterside distillery of Salcombe Distilling Co. they only include the best spices and fresh fruits in their gin which results in smooth, enriching and exceptional gins. As you can tell Salcombe Distillery Co. is the perfect partner for P&O cruises as the core of the business has a like-minded enthusiasm for sea adventures and finding new, exciting flavours to help create memorable experiences on Iona and all other P&O cruises as well.
Distilled Onboard Iona – Where is the Marabelle Gin available?
Onboard Iona, there is a controlled amount of Marabelle Gin that is distilled each day by P&O Cruises‘ very own gin specialist. The way you will be able to tell if the gin is distilled onboard is if the bottle has a gold seal on it then you’ll know it was distilled on Iona inside Anderson’s Bar & Library in the very first distillery at sea.
The custom-made still gin distillery onboard Iona is named Columba, after the person who found the Abbey on the island of Iona in the sixth century, this is where Marabelle Gin’s maiden distillation took place.
A beautifully balanced recipe
Salcombe Distilling Co has a lovely waterside distillery in Devon where Marabelle Gin is distilled in their 450-litre copper still to share and serve across the P&O Cruises fleet satisfying guests tingling taste buds.
There are a few ways that guests can try the brilliant Marabelle Gin on board P&O Cruises, you could treat yourself onboard with a beautifully crafted typically British G&T cocktail including Marabelle Gin, or if you have tried the Marabelle Gin onboard and love it so much that you want to take a bottle home then why not purchase a souvenir bottle of this one of a kind gin.
If you are cruising on any of the other P&O ships besides Iona a blue seal can be found on the bottles which shows that the gin was distilled by Salcombe Distilling Co. at its Devon distillery. The blue seal bottles can also be purchased straight from the Salcombe Distilling Co’s website which can be enjoyed at home for all occasions.
P&O Cruises are not finishing their gin adventure there, they are working alongside Salcombe Distilling Co. on the development and creation of exclusive gins which are related to the regions and countries that the ships visit which will bring a sense of idyllic escapism for guests when holidaying on one of P&O’s cruises.
